PMX 2011 Press Registration

Press Registration for 2011 has been extended to November 5th! All applications after the deadline will be subject to a $15 fee per badge!

**NOTE: The Press policies have changed significantly from previous years. Pre-reg deadlines, at-con pricing, and credentials requirements will be strictly enforced and the issuance of press badges to standard and returning press registrants for 2011 is contingent upon reports written for 2010.

The Pacific Media Association, host of Pacific Media Expo, is pleased to welcome professional and amateur press to the largest convention dedicated primarily to Asian Media and Pop Culture in the United States. If you are interested in attending Pacific Media Expo as a member of the press, we feature three different press badge classifications and privileges based on your organization’s qualifications:

To Register:

  1. Determine which level of press you qualify for. Please see below for qualifications and privileges.

  2. Submit a Press Pass Registration form. You must submit your online application no later than 23:59 PST on November 5, 2011 in order to be considered. Press members who miss the November 5 deadline are encouraged to register at-con. On-site registration can be approved or denied at the discretion of Pacific Media Expo® and are bound to the same restrictions as online registrants.

    **Note: Due to the high number of Press applications, organizations will be limited to receiving up to four (4) complimentary press passes only. Additional passes can be purchased at-con for a discounted rate of $15 for the full convention weekend for any remaining individuals within the company who would like to receive press membership. All additional passes are still subject to the convention review process.

  3. Provide proof of your relationship with the organization you registered with in the form of links to staff lists, your byline, scanned business cards, letters of assignment on official letterheads, etc. along with links or attachments of previous works when you submit your Press Pass Registration form.

  4. Wait. Please allow at least 10 business days for your application to be processed. Once your application has been received, we will review your submission and qualifications. You will be notified via email if your application is approved or denied. In either case, you will be provided with information on how to proceed next.

    **TIP: To expedite your submission review please provide proof of your publications, articles, videos, photos, etc. after applying along with your web registration code to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Note that a web registration code is not proof of press badge approval.

At the Convention:

When you arrive at the Convention:
  1. Present the following when you register at the Press Office at San Lorenzo A:

    • A photo ID
    • A copy of your registration
    • A business card

    A valid photo ID is required at the time of badge pickup. You cannot pickup your badge without your ID and only the individuals themselves will be allowed to receive their individual press badge. Members within the same group will not be allowed to retrieve other group-mates press badges.

  2. Pick up your badge at the Press Office.

  3. Grab a copy of the official PMX 2011 Press Packet containing inside information about events, programs, and special guests, and join the convention.
             **NOTE:If you have any corrections, please, notify the staffer BEFORE your badge is printed. Otherwise, a $5
            correction fee will be charged.

Press Policies and Guidelines

Press Policies

I. Visible Badges

Press Badges must be worn at all times visibly during the convention. Persons without badges will be denied access to all events, programs, and venues requiring badges.

II. Lost Badges

Lost press badges will be replaced at the discounted rate of $15 for the full convention weekend. No exceptions.

III. Appropriate Decorum

The following behaviors are not permitted:

  • Harassing a Guest of Honor.
  • Requesting autographs or sketches outside the normal autograph sessions.
  • Bringing non-press members to interviews, press panels, or special events.
  • Unprofessional and/or inappropriate behavior.
  • Taking pictures or video in an a area/event non prohibited areas.
  • Being in a press area that your badge level does not allow (ex: emerging press in major press areas)
  • Violation of any policy set forth by the Press Office and Pacific Media Expo.

In the event that any member of press fails to adhere to any policies set forth by PMX or any of its departments, he or she forfeits all press badge privileges.

Press Panel Policies

I. NO LATE ENTRY

The Press Panel room doors will close ten minutes after the scheduled Press Panel time. Once the doors are closed, members of press are no longer allowed entry into the Press Panel room.

II. NO RE-ENTRY

Once the doors to the Press panel have closed, no exit and re-entry is allowed.

III. NO CELL PHONES

Please respect the featured panelist and each other by turning off your cell phones before the panel begins. Receiving or making calls during the panel will lead to an immediate expulsion from the Press Panel room.

In the event that any member of press fails to adhere to any policies set forth by PMX or any of its departments, he or she forfeits all press badge privileges.

 
Press Qualifications and Privileges

Major Press

Major Press Badges Features:
  1. Complimentary full membership to PMX.
  2. Access to the Press Assets Archive.
  3. Priority entry into press conferences.
  4. Priority access to photographer space during Masquerade, previously arranged fan panels, etc (with the exception of concerts).
  5. Complimentary concert admission, subject to availability. Details TBA
  6. Priority access to all photographer pits (if applicable) and press seating areas during special events.
  7. Priority when requesting private interviews with our music guests and Guests of Honor*. *Interview availabilities however are always at the guests’ discretion
Major Press Qualifications:

**NOTE: Please note that the issuance of press badges to standard and returning press registrants for 2011 is contingent upon reports written for 2010.

To qualify for Major Press, you or your organization must fulfill two of the three requirements below:

  • You or your organizations have previously covered PMX for 3+ years
  • You work for a major regional or national broadcast or news outlet
  • You or your organization has a listenership/viewership/readership of 1M+ individuals (please provide proof of statistics)

    **TIP: A courtesy copy of your previous coverage is greatly appreciated at badge pickup.

Standard Press

Standard Press Badges Features:
  1. Complimentary full membership to PMX.
  2. Access to the Press Assets Archive.
  3. Early entry into press conferences.
  4. Early access to photographer space during Masquerade, previously arranged fan panels, etc (with the exception of concerts).
  5. Complimentary concert admission, subject to availability. Details TBA
  6. Priority access to all photographer pits (if applicable) and press seatings area during special events.
  7. The chance to request private interviews with our music guests and Guests of Honor. (Interview availabilities however are always at the guests’ discretion)
Standard Press Qualifications:

If you have attended PMX in the past and have written, reviewed, or posted articles about the experience, please apply as Standard Press. **NOTE: Please note that the issuance of press badges to standard and returning press registrants for 2011 is contingent upon reports written for 2010.

If your publication is Traditional Press:

The publication has to be in publication before January 1, 2010, with at least a 10,500 circulation per issue. The publication must be published at least quarterly.

If your publication is Webzine Press:

  • The website has to be live prior to August 1, 2010
  • The webzine is updated weekly.
  • The webzine must be focused on news or reviews.
  • The webzine have to cover at least one of the following: Asian Culture (Reviews, critiques or discussions.) Asian Entertainment (Asian cinema, music or movies.)

Emerging Press

Emerging Press Badges Features:
  1. Complimentary full membership to PMX.
  2. Access to the Press Assets Archive.
  3. Entry into press conferences.
  4. Photographer space during Masquerade, previously arranged fan panels, etc (with the exception of concerts).
Emerging Press Qualifications:

If you represent a new or a student media organization, wish to focus on a specific event (such as Masquerade), and/or have never attended PMX, we invite you to register as Emerging Press.

If your publication is Traditional Press

The publication has to be in publication before January 1, 2011, with at least a 7,500 circulation per issue. The publication must be published at least quarterly.

If your publication is Webzine Press:

  • The website has to be live prior to August 1, 2011
  • The webzine is updated bi-weekly.
  • The webzine must be focused on news or reviews.
  • The webzine have to cover at least one of the following: Asian Culture (Reviews, critiques or discussions.) Asian Entertainment (Asian cinema, music or movies.)

OTHER PRESS QUALIFICATIONS

Media and Freelance Press:

If you are a freelance writer/journalist/photographer, please send us copies of your work along with your business card and a letter of introduction on company letterhead. Include an official photo identification showing your name and date of birth.

Broadcast Media:

If you are a broadcast journalist or photographer, please include a letter from a producer/editor on company letterhead stating that you are covering Pacific Media Expo on assignment. Include an official photo identification showing your name and date of birth.

Documentaries:

If you are filming for a documentary, submit any clips that you may have completed, a list of completed projects and a letter of introduction on company letterhead stating the purpose of the documentary. Include an official photo identification showing your name and date of birth.
